Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion Treatment

Microdermabrasion is a simple skin treatment in which the dermatologist smoothens and polishes the skin with an instrument. The machine often uses crystals which gently exfoliate the uppermost layer of skin, and this assists in removing the dead skin cells. This process helps to remove the lifeless and dull looking skin, and finally making the skin to look smoother, firmer, and more radiant.
As, the skin is treated with just pressure and crystals, there are no risks of burns or scabbing, which are often seen with a chemical peel. The skin feels rejuvenated immediately after treatment, and the glow lasts for several weeks.
An additional advantage of the treatment is that the home care regimen of skin lightening or anti-aging creams can work better.
Most people are very comfortable with microdermabrasion, and experience no side effects. However, in people with sensitive skin, there may be mild redness, which resolves itself in 24 to 48 hours. The best part of this treatment is that even if you experience redness, the next treatment can be adjusted according to the skin sensitivity by reducing the crystal flow and vacuum settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

We like to assist our clients with a knowledgeable and in-depth collective approach to answer for all your queries and fears with our FAQ mega-base.

How is the procedure done?

Before the first treatment, a detailed consultation is provided, which includes suggestions to improve the home care regimen. A gentle exfoliating face wash, moisturizers, and broad-spectrum sunscreen are mandatory for post-treatment care. Night creams that focus on the primary skin problem are also recommended.
During the first treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleaned. Then, earbuds are applied to prevent crystals from getting into the ear canal. The patient is advised to keep the eyes closed. The handpiece of the instrument is then employed to the skin. You may feel mild scrubbing or rubbing sensation. The dermatologist adjusts the crystal flow and vacuum based on the subjective and clinical response of the patient. Multiple passes of microdermabrasion are made until optimum results are seen. Then the crystals are removed using a hydrafacial or wet sponge. A cooling mask is applied over the treated area.
Post-treatment advises using gentle cleansers and moisturizers. Repeated treatments are scheduled at monthly intervals.

What are the different types of Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is of two types: Crystal and Diamond.

Newer modification of microdermabrasion uses water under vacuum and show significant promise in gentle exfoliation and in the treatment of whiteheads and blackheads.

How to maximise results from Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a technique that stimulates the formation of new skin. So, when the procedure is performed, the expected skin recovery is to complete in a fortnight, though an improvement from treatment will continue for a month. The treatments sessions are spaced about 15 days to a month apart. The fortnightly treatments are usually advised for more problem-prone skin, and monthly treatments are usually the rule.
Using this treatment can help address many common skin problems like dull skin, blackheads, open pores, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and early pigmentation. However, a strict home care regimen which is prescribed by the dermatologist will help to attain and maintain results.
